Principal’s Communications and Publishing Experience

Prior to becoming executive director of Meadow Brook Hall, a National Historic Landmark in Rochester, Michigan (2004-21), Geoffrey C. Upward served as the director of communications and marketing at Oakland University for 20 years. Before his tenure at Oakland, Geoff was publications director and museum editor for Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan, where in 1979 he wrote and published the 50-year history of that institution, A Home for Our Heritage: The Building and Growth of Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum, 1929-1979.  Geoff began his career at The National Trust for Historic Preservation, where he served as assistant editor of Preservation News.  He also had stints as a managing editor at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, managing editor of Arabians (horse) Magazine, and as a foreign correspondent in England. He holds a B.A. in History from Albion (Michigan) College and an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri.
